I am a Sociologist for the City College of Montreal. I make approximately $82,138 in American dollars, annually.





Let's talk percentages and fractal ratios here, I need to know the numbers for my thesis. Wikipedia doesn't have any answers.How many Republicans do you think are closeted 'gays' but still fight against gay marriage?

About 10% are gay. Those who grow up in a conservative home but happen to be gay are likely to either be non-political or become either democrats, Libertarians or Log Cabin Republicans. So that would mean that likely less than 5% of Republicans who are conservative on social matters are closeted gays. Many of those will not actively pursue the traditional-marraige issue. So I would say only 2 or 3% of those who do are gays.


It looks like more because the media obsesses on the small number of outed gay ';traditional marriage'; republicans.
My colleagues are Sociologists(I am a Bio-Engineer) and I find their reports intriguing. I emailed this question to our discussion group and you may find their responses enlightening.

Probably very little. Any number you get is hypothetical, since if they were closet gays, they have not come out of the closet and you would not know they were gay.

I hope you have not chosen this for your thesis. No one can even estimate this since the people you question are ';closeted';. It would be pure speculation. A thesis has to have some rational relation to reality.
