When people say they are against gay marriage, how do they defend their opinion, aside from stating their belief that it is not what God intended?What are the arguments against gay marriage?
1) Being gay is not natural, and real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, air conditioning, tattoos, piercings and silicon breasts.
2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay. In the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
3) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior; People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract. Lamps are next.
4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all;
Hence why women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed;
And we can't let the sanctity of Britney Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage be destroyed.
6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children; So therefore, gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our population isn't out of control, our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.
7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children; Since, of course, straight parents only raise straight children.
8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.
9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. Which is exactly why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.What are the arguments against gay marriage?
The only reason that the law is concerned about marriage is that the people understood marriage to be the best institution for having and raising the nation's children. If marriage is just about personal affections, love, commitments and sexual preferences, then the government ought to have nothing to say.
Giving marriages support and protections was like giving farmers support and protection. Laws that encourage farmers discriminant against non-farmers.
If the people decide that marriage is no longer about children, then instead of adding gays to the list of those who can marry, we need to get rid of the laws entirely. There is no compelling reason for the law to recognize marriage (or civil unions). .
marriage is the act of two people who care a great deal for one another and want to celibate their love by expressing their connection with vows, the exchange of a wedding band and showing the people they know...
...i believe there is no factual argument against two men or two women getting married.
I don't know about gay-marriage, but I am definitely against hetero-marriage. No-fault divorce laws, ever since getting legislated in the 70's/80's are nothing but legalized theft.
gays smell funny. get two of them together and whew. that's the sanest argument i've heard, anyway. i personally disagree, but i have been to some funky dance clubs so maybe.
no one has ever offered a plausible reason to me. only bible gibber jabber.
