You can't have it both ways. Government doesn't get smaller just because you lower some taxes. You have to also stop government from actively regulating us in Churches and Bedrooms. As an example, As the Methodist church performs Gay Marriages, why is it the right of Evangelical and Catholic government bureaucrats to regulate against Methodist religious choices?Why do Cons pretend to want small govt, then increase govt's scope with Gay Marriage and Abortion Regulations?

A true conservative wants government out of the way. The people that you are talking about are the ';Religious Right';. They are only conservatives on fiscal policy, and social policy unless it goes against church doctrine. They do have there opinion.





It would be like me saying ';Why do all liberals insist on bigger government to support a welfare state'; This is a rather broad statement, when it is truly the people that want a more socialistic form of government that this applies to.





As a conservative, I have always espoused that the government should get out of the marriage business. Marriage is a church institution. Allow the government to condone civil unions, partnerships, and the like. Do it without prejudice. If a gay couple would like to marry, and there is a church that will marry them, then so be it. It is between the couple, the church, and their god. We want small federal government and the powers to be returned to the individual states to decide as it is spelled out in the Constitution. The gay agenda and the abortion rights people are the ones who want it in the federal government because time after time states shoot down both those issues. For example prop 8 was just crushed by Californians and now the gays want to take it to the supreme court.
