What is your opinion on the same-sex marriage issue?

Should gays be allowed to marry? Why, or why not? What is your opinion on the same-sex marriage issue?
if two dudes went out and got married right now, it would in no way affect how i live my life. i would still have the same job. i would still pay the same taxes. i would still eat the same food, hang out with the same people, do the same stuff i always would.

since i cannot find any way at all that my life would change if gay people could get married, (because seriously, not even one minute detail of my life would be different), gay people should be able to get married.

so unless anyone can PROVE to me with REAL facts, not just made up religious mumbo jumbo, that my life will be in imminent peril if Jane and Sue go get married, then let Jane and Sue get married

oh, and Steve M, marriage existed long before christianity did. christianity is a moot point here because the topic is marriage, which existed long before the christian religion

edit again! i love horses. you say there is no point in gays getting married because they cant have children. well, how about all the couples out there already where the woman is infertile? or the man has a rediculously low sperm count? or all the elderly couples that get married? or all the couples that simply DONT WANT CHILDREN? your argument is invalid because there are already straight couples out there who cannot have childrenWhat is your opinion on the same-sex marriage issue?
I don't think any church is which being gay is a sin should be pressured to allow them to marry (in a church).

However, this is a civil rights issue as it pertains to the government marriage instead of the religious one. So, yes, they should be allowed. I'm amazed that this is still an issue. How can anyone not understand that this is a country that does not discriminate based on sex, gender, race, etc? It's so ridiculous.

Remember that religious people do not consider any civil unions (people who get married by a judge or justice of the peace) actually married. Some religions don't recognize the marriages of others. Some denominations don't even recognize the marriages of other denominations! So, what is the difference?

If I get a divorce, it doesn't break up a Christian marriage. It has nothing to do with the marriage of anyone else. If two gay people choose to be legally married, who cares? All they want is legal protection (and a little human recognition for Christ's sake!)
I don't understand why this is such a big issue. A religious ceremony makes sense if you want your marriage to start with a blessing from your god, but what is the value of standing in line with a bunch of people that are there to get fishing licenses and building permits only to pay a fee to have an over-worked, underpaid deputy city clerk stamp a piece of paper? That's not a marriage; it's a tax benefit and a legal contract that offers a bit of convenience. You can do almost everything that a civil marriage offers with wills and contracts.
Why is it any of the government's business who I make the most private and sacred covenant in my life with?

When and where was it decided that they deserve to stick their nose into when, where, and to whom I may or may not get married?

The government shouldn't have anything to do with marriage for anyone. Heterosexual, homosexual, or otherwise - unless by getting married you're also doing something else illegal. (And no, homosexual behavior should not be illegal.)

There -should- be a public registry, where one can enter the name of a desired individual to act as 'next of kin'. (Be admitted to see you in the hospital, serve as executor of your estate if you do not have a will, take care of your kids if you die and haven't specified anyone else, t cetera). This individual could be a spouse, a close friend, or anyone willing to sign the paper that they agree.
Why allow ANYONE to get married according to the Govt? Make ALL Marriages that are performed by the Govt a Civil Union. Then anyone can go in to them. As to the SACRED INSTITUTE that is Marriage we can let RELIGIOUS INSTITUTES preside over that. Sure it will be a meaningless paper/ceremony that no one but the Religious Institutes recognize, but it will make everyone equal. Wouldn't that be great? Personally I'm against Same-Sex marriage. My personal opinion shouldn't dictate LAW though. My personal opinion clashes with the law in other areas, but that doesn't mean the law is wrong.
First off, I'm 100% straight. I have zero interest in having sex with another woman.

However, if two women or two men get married, I can't see how that threatens MY marriage one bit. My husband and I will stay married, or get divorced, because of how we feel about each other. Sure, if gay marriage was legal, my husband might leave me for another man...but as it stands now, he could leave me for another woman! And frankly, he's much more likely to leave me for another woman, than for another man.

Gays should be able to marry whoever they love, the same as straights are. Strong families make for a stronger society, and having more stable married couples, whether of the same or opposite sexes, will make a stronger society.

I don't agree that gays should have a civil union instead of a marriage. Married partners have certain legal rights, and as far as I can tell, partners who have civil unions don't have the same rights.

My brother says that he's for gay marriage because he believes that EVERYONE should have the same opportunity for misery. He was married, and had a rather nasty divorce.
Let's break this down like rational adults.

1. Gay marriage doesn't hurt anyone. If you don't like gay marriage, don't have one.

2. There are hundreds of documented cases of gay animals. Just because someone doesn't bother to study biology doesn't mean they can claim it doesn't exist.

3. Procreation - Yes, the world isn't overcrowded enough. By all means let children rot away in orphanages, because dammit, we need to kick out more babies! The Earth isn't overpopulated enough!

4. Procreation - only people who can have children together have the right to get married - so old people and the infertile don't have that right, either?

5. Raising children- Hundreds of psychological studies have conclusively found that the only difference between kids raised in gay homes and in straight ones is that the kids in gay homes tend to be nicer to people who aren't just like them. Less racism, sexism, religious intolerance, etc. How horrible!

6. Marriage is a legal document. Unless you chose to have a ceremony in a church, it has nothing to do with religion.

7. The Constitution clearly states that there cannot be one religion elevated over all others (that's why our forefathers came here, duh). Because many religions celebrate gay unions, OUR religious rights are being violated by banning them. Oh, right, we're inferior to Christians, huh?

8. Even if it were a choice (yeah, every single gay/bi person in the world is lying about that *eye roll*), so what? Religion is a choice. So we can forbid you to build churches, right? After all, you CHOSE to be Christian.

9. Adam and Eve both had brown eyes. So anyone with blue eyes is an abomination, right?

10. Since your god said that a man should be one when he takes a wife, that automatically means that it's forbidden.

11. Jesus made it clear that instead of doing unto others, we should force everyone to live by Christian laws even if they aren't Christian.

12. God said eating shellfish is an abomination too, but he didn't mean that one, really.

13. The Bible is obviously the best moral guide a person can have. After all, it tells you all the proper ways to have slaves, instructs you to set up a fair price when selling your daughter into slavery, and it's always very reasonable about the specific ways we should stone our disobedient children.

14. Gay marriage hurts all other marriages. You'll wake up in the middle of the night and say ';Oh no! Two men just married each other in another time zone! Our marriage is less valuable now!';

15. Gays can't have love, only lust. All those 90 year olds who have been together 50+ years and look like they would snap like a twig if they had sex are obviously together only for lust.

16. It's just like any other sin. Should we allow murder or the rape of children? Cause that's what will happen when we allow gays to marry! It's the next logical step!

17. Other countries have permitted gay marriage and are doing just fine. But we're different. We'll collapse and be ruined.

18. People will marry dogs. Because a dog is recognized as a human being and can consent to marriage and sex. Dogs and gay people are about the same level.

19. The ';I find it gross'; argument is perfectly valid. I find dogs gross and disgusting. I think I'll ban dog ownership.

20. Churches will be forced to marry gays. Sure they have the right to turn anyone away for their religion, divorce, race, refusing counseling, having tattoos etc., but they'll be forced to marry gays.

21. Gays should have all the rights, but not the word marriage. The same way that black people should be able to ride the bus, but have to sit in the back. What does it matter? They still get where they're going!

Again IT DOESN'T HURT ANYONE!

Can anyone dispute these arguments? It's impossible.
If you would have asked this question a few months ago, my answer may have been different or I simply wouldn't have cared either way. I have since met an incredible gay man. His partner was in a horrific accident %26amp; is now in a coma. He is so devoted to this man, coming to the hospital every day, caring for his every need. The unfortunate thing is that he has no rights to this man that he built his life with, medically or otherwise according to the law. It is a very sad situation that is much too long to get into but there is a huge battle going on between the partner %26amp; some distant sister who never approved of his lifestyle. Had this couple been married it would be the husband who could make the medical decisions. So my answer is YES! Gay people deserve the same rights as straight people.
I think it is ther own choise but based on my opion i do not think that is right. Because god made Adam and Eve to show how the world is supposed to be if he wanted everybody to be gay he would put two guys in the beginning of the world.I think it is there choise if they want to get martried but there is really no point because they can not have children. But if they want to be together without chldren knock themselves out.
Of course they should be aloud to!

There people too and just like everyone else they want to be happy!

And when people say no the should no be aloud to.

Why it's not hurting you or making you life hell so your pretty much just complaining to get an reaction out of people.

And if you were a real christian you should be happy that someone else if happy.
If two people love each other enough to seriously consider marriage, it doesn't matter what race, gender or orientation they are - they should celebrate their love and it should be allowed to be celebrated!
i think they should be able to marry it's the U.S. they have the freedom to do whatever they want

even though i think its really creepy
Gays should be able to marry! Think about it...

...If America is a free country, shouldn't we at least have the freedom of marriage?
Of course they should! They deserve the same right to lose half their sh*t in a divorce that the rest of us have!
Its very simple. Yes.
I think they should be able to. It doesn't hurt anyone, so why not?
Homosexuals should be allowed to enter into civil unions, with all the privileges and benefits of a heterosexual marriage. What homosexuals do in the bedroom (or on the stove, the coffee table, etc.) is just a little bit different that what most people do. So why not keep the little words on the certificate 'just a little bit different'; as well? The issue seems to be in the wording, not who is doing what, or what one union has over another, it's all about that one little word, ';marriage.';
No they should not be allowed.

Why cant they call it something else. Why keep tearing apart the Christian religion.

I am so tired of them pushing they fagness in our faces.

Lets remember God created Adam and Eve, NOT Adam and Steve.
