Where can you get good facts on gay marriage?

I am doing a debate for school, and I can't seem to find any fact supporting gay marriage which is what I need, I've found plenty of facts that don't support it, it's very annoying.

I support gay marriageWhere can you get good facts on gay marriage?
I think this makes some good points. You can find it various places online, or even youtube videos about it:

Why Gay Marriage Is Wrong:

1) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Brittany Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets, because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

Of course you can word it differently. c:

Good luck!Where can you get good facts on gay marriage?
It's difficult to say you can find any FACTS. They're all opinions because there have been no same-sex marriages to study to see what is positive v. what is negative about it. To break it down, the opponents of gay marriage basically think that children brought up in a gay marriage will be messed up or ';turn'; gay and that because they are violating the will of God, they are ruining marriage for everyone. Those are just opinions. However, you can find a lot of conjecture on gay marriage by professionals who say that these things just aren't true (i.e. the USA Today article; AND I'M REFERRING TO EVIDENCE RELATING TO THE US NOT OTHER COUNTRIES!).

The positive things in gay marriage are also the things that opponents of gay marriage tend to harp on the most. For example, if same sex couples were to get married, they would have the married status for taxes, their partners (and their children) would qualify for their benefits like health care and pension, and, should something happen to one of the spouses and they ended up in the hospital, they would have visitation rights and the right to make decisions on the behalf of their spouse. These are all positive things that come out of gay marriage.

However, the religious right in this country won't accept that and somehow feel that because they are ';sinners'; in their opinion, they do not deserve these same rights. It makes no sense. However, it's difficult to say the positive things supporting gay marriage as far as scientific data because there are no gay marriages to study to get a good sample of the married population. All you can say is what is good for same sex couples if they are able to get married. Ultimately, this will be good socially (i.e. healthier people, less legal trouble, better wealth distribution, stronger child welfare, etc.). In the same turn, it's hard to say exactly what is wrong with gay marriage based on its benefits.

Just because the Christian god says it's wrong shouldn't mean anything as far as the law goes. If same sex couples can't get married then churches should start having to pay taxes because there is no more separation of church and state. So, really, in my opinion (after all, opinions are all we have), those who are against gay marriage have nothing solid to say other than that it's a sin. The idea that it hurts children is bogus. That's what the USA Today article is for.

The answer above me is a great example of how you can turn the negative opinions on their head and make it something positive, by the way. :)
First of all, Kat, you're waaaay wrong. There are thousands of gay marriages in countries more enlightened than the US. There have been studies done and they're just the same as straight marriages in those countries.

Here's a fantastic website. Lots of facts to support it.

Good luck with the project.
