Without a religious basis, is there any argument that can be made against same sex marriage?

Without a religious basis, I see no argument against same sex marriage.

And this nation has no religion. In fact, the constitution is very clear in saying that there can be now laws based on religion. And it also says that everyone has the same rights.

So why not allow same sex marriage?

And - is there any argument against it that does not have a religious basis?Without a religious basis, is there any argument that can be made against same sex marriage?
from an economic and evolutionary perspective two people of the same sex naturally can not create life, limiting the growth of your country which causes a over balance aged society that does not have the income to support the current demands in work flow. other then that no

by the way when did the Constitution change to read ';there can be now laws based on religion'; just kidding.Without a religious basis, is there any argument that can be made against same sex marriage?
Yes, under anti-discrimination laws, churches would not be allowed to refuse to marry gay men or women in their churches even if it was against their religious beliefs.

So, religious clergy are afraid that they will have to preform marriages that they think are wrong. For example, doctors can't refuse to inseminate lesbians.

There should be some protection under the law for these people.
Nor, I presume, do you see any reason to ban marrying 12 women to one man, or one man to his goat.

The Constitution does not say that ';there can be no laws based on religion';. It says the ';Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion';. Not at all the same thing.

The traditional rationale for marriage is so that children will know who their parents are, and the parents will be responsible for taking care of their children. It is the same in all religions or even non-religious societies. People still got married in the Soviet Union. People still get married in Communist China.
There are some points that point out depression in homosexuals. Sure, they are true, but because society does not approve of them. As well as any argument saying the children will be made fun of is the same. There is no argument that isn't affected by religion, if not an argument from religion.

Though all arguments themselves pertain to the homosexual relationship itself, not whether they are married or not.
The cities and counties issue marriage licenses. These same political subdivisions determine at what age a person may marry. Other than being too young or marrying your sister or brother, as the case may be, who you marry is up to you and not to the government. Churches do not issues marriage licenses. In each state laws provide who may conduct a marriage ceremony. Judges, notaries public, mayors, as well as clergymen and women are authorized to conduct marriage ceremonies. Check with your local marriage license issuing office.

So marriage is a civil contract between two people. As we do not discriminate as to who may enter into a contract other than above, same sex marriage is a right that all of us have.
yes, there is. If you study psychology you will find that men and women are simply different in nature. We look at the world differently emotionally speaking. A child, whether male or female needs the balance of this in their lives. You can see this played out when you look at single parent households. Not all children turn out in a negative way, and some are very successful. However, if you study the ones that don't, you almost always see that child lacking in the areas that are traditionally viewed as a strength of either a male or female parent.

That being said, there are many exceptions, but as a general statement, on a social level a child benefits from a male and female combination

No, I'm not homophobic, I just made a general statement of psychology which is what you asked for.
I've heard an atheist say that they don't think gay is right, but from the way he worded it, I think it was just pure homophobia.

Yeah, I also don't see any arguments outside of religion that are based on anything more than ignorance, irrational reasoning, or just homophobia.
Without a religious basis, there is no argument against same-sex marriage. However, there is an argument against sexual relations between men – when those relations include anal intercourse. This behavior (if practiced long-term) has serious health risks, which are obvious (such as anal fissures, etc). But that argument does not apply to sex between women.
According to the US Constitution, everyone has the same rights.

People are gay by choice. Everyone has the right to choose.

Example: A man has chosen to be gay. His basic rights as a US citizen don't change with him. He still has the same right to marry a woman as I do.

Edit: At least I didn't base it on religion. I tried to answer the question AS ASKED as best I could. Maybe this section should be Yahoo Opinions
No. As you know every person makes a choice. Some people want to be homosexual. Or at least end up this way. Every person has the right to make such choices. Like being an anarchist, a fascist, gay, straight or even being a wickan member. The matter is not to treat them like they were outcasts, just because they have different beliefs, dreams and preferations. So when you are homosexual and you feel the need to marry your loved one(another homosexual), you theoritically have the right to do it. It's just, you like it, you don't bother with my life, then do it!
I don't have a problem with same-sex marriages, but technically the State sanctions marriages because it is thought that the married couple will have children that will be educated and become working citizens of the State. Marriage is meant to support not the husband and wife exaclty--but the family--the potential future citizens. Same-sex partners can't ';make babies,'; but these days many adopt or resort to articial insemination--so many ';make families'; anyway.
Hell No!

I Think People Use Religion Too Much.

Who Cares What The Bible Says?

And If God Is Supposed To Be So Nice %26amp; Forgiving, Why Do People Think That Being Gay Is A Sin?

I Think They Change The Bible To Fit What They Want Like If I Cheated On My Husband A Religious Person Would Say ';Oh, Well God Forgives You. He Loves Everyone.'; Or Something Like That.

But If Someone Said They're Gay The Person Would Say ';God Doesn't Forgive You, You're Going To Hell, BLAH BLAH BLAH!';

You Know What I Mean?

And I Also Hate When People Say That Being Gay Is A Choice!

Ughh, People Can Be So Stupid! =/

This Is A Matter That I Feel Very Strongly About

Did You Know That Iowa Just Legalized Same Sex Marriage!

Yay!

Now We Need All the Other States!
Question for Pastor Biker:

So, people who are not planning to have children should not be allowed to marry?

Say an older couple, both widowed, in their 60's? Or a man who is sterile for some reason (childhood disease, maybe?). They would not be allowed to marry, because it's not for the purpose of creating a ';family';?

.
Sorry to be a little intense but... Ok, well girls have vaginas and boys have penises. They go together like a puzzle. Butt holes are for your poop to come out of not to have something shoved up. That is the same for heterosexuals and homosexuals. You can have serious health problems too.. Girls, are not meant to dry hump either..
Unfortunately, some uninformed people still believe we live in a ';christian nation';.

I can't think of any secular argument against it (although I'm very supportive of same-sex marriage and an atheist, so I can't think of ANY logical argument against it).
There have been ridiculously stretched attempts such as this would somehow infringe upon the rights of straight marriages or peoples right to practice their religion. Any normal person however can see these are baseless.
Well, someone brought up a good argument a while back: If everybody went gay the population of mankind would become extinct in around 100 years or so.
Nope. Just that the sex gets a bit tedious boring doing it the same way year after year, day after day. Religious people like to mix it up.
There are no arguments against it, and if politicians were actually adhering to the constitution it would be legal.
No

The Observer - Heterosexuals don't get STD's? That's a new one. Monogamy helps stop the spread of STD's, so you should be for gay marriage if you're concerned about that!
as far as marriage goes Im not talkin about christian just marriage in general..it is to become and create family....if the two people have the same plumbing theres no creating a family..
Nope. There really shouldn't be any argument at all. As long as they're good people and put love and happiness out into the world, what's it matter??
Its not really an argument, but personally I don't want to see men making out with other men when I walk the street. I'm concerned that all this gay-rights stuff will blur the line on whats normal sex-wise. I imagine a world where sex becomes an ambiguous anything goes situation where gender is no more important than hair color.

I may have a son to raise one day, and I don't think its possible for me to teach him that gay sex is ok for other people but not for him.

No religious bias here. I'm atheist.
It would have a personal bias.... but after seeing how sick my Uncle and His partner have become after living over 20 years in a monogamous homosexual relationship... and seeing how sickly men and women start to look and act after having long homosexual relationships... I would say that physically it is not good for the body... But this is my personal opinion simply based on watching and observing people that have had long term homosexual relationships.
Yes. Insurance reasons. Think about ';I Now Pronounce You Chuck %26amp; Larry';. So if you had a roommate or good friend that was the same sex as you who had really good insurance at work, you could just get married so that you could be put onto their insurance. I don't think a lot of people would actually do that but it is a possibility.
Yes.

What if you grew up in a Gay household. You'd be made fun of and beaten up. Same sex marriage households are prone to domestic violence. And if its men, anal sex can cause damage to the rectum and transmit more STD's.
ya that is very true but it's is also stupid that when it's 2 guys kissing everyone says gross! but when it's 2 girls kissing all they guys think it's hot it's disgusting! oh and also it's is suppose to be adam and eve not adam and steve
I can think of one off the bat: Evolution.

How can we evolve if people are gonna be gay? The thing that drives it is reproduction.

By the way, I'm just giving you what you asked for, I don't actually believe in evolution...lol
Without a religious basis is there any argument against incestuous marriage?

Gay marriage is insurance fraud. They want the legal and economic benefits that come with marriage.
Because it is immoral and disgusting, and an abrogation of all that is good and decent in this world.
Yes. Diseases.
