How does Jesus' example show Christians that marriage is optional?

It's for a piece of r.e. revision for my exam. It's the only question I don't have a clue on.

A quote or two from the bible would be lovely if you know any.

useful quotes will get best answer if any are submitted. How does Jesus' example show Christians that marriage is optional?
Read a better book. How does Jesus' example show Christians that marriage is optional?
Matt 19:10-12

';10The disciples said to him, ';If this is the situation between a husband and wife, it is better not to marry.';

11Jesus replied, ';Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given. 12For some are eunuchs because they were born that way; others were made that way by men; and others have renounced marriage[a]because of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it.';

To paraphrase, the disciples asked Jesus if it was better not to marry and Jesus replies that marriage is for some but not for others.
1 Corinthians 7:1

[ Marriage ] Now for the matters you wrote about: It is good for a man not to marry.

1 Corinthians 7:1-3 (in Context) 1 Corinthians 7 (Whole Chapter)

# 1 Corinthians 7:28

But if you do marry, you have not sinned; and if a virgin marries, she has not sinned. But those who marry will face many troubles in this life, and I want to spare you this.

1 Corinthians 7:27-29 (in Context) 1 Corinthians 7 (Whole Chapter)

# 1 Corinthians 7:36

If anyone thinks he is acting improperly toward the virgin he is engaged to, and if she is getting along in years and he feels he ought to marry, he should do as he wants. He is not sinning. They should get married.

1 Corinthians 7:35-37 (in Context) 1 Corinthians 7 (Whole Chapter)

# 1 Corinthians 7:37

But the man who has settled the matter in his own mind, who is under no compulsion but has control over his own will, and who has made up his mind not to marry the virgin鈥攖his man also does the right thing.

1 Corinthians 7:36-38 (in Context) 1 Corinthians 7 (Whole Chapter)

# 1 Corinthians 7:38

So then, he who marries the virgin does right, but he who does not marry her does even better.

1 Corinthians 7:37-39 (in Context) 1 Corinthians 7 (Whole Chapter)
The problem is two fold:

1. Jesus never taught it as optional. In Matthew 19:1-12, Jesus is talking about divorce. The disciples respond that it is better not to marry. Jesus responds not everyone can receive what He is talking about. Then He mentions eunuchs from birth, who may have been born with a deformity. Next He mentions eunuchs made by men, obviously those who had no choice in the matter and were most likely slaves. Lastly were those who made themselves that way, not necessarily in the physical but in the spirit to focus on the Kingdom of God. This seems to be a gift from God as seen in 1 Corinthians 7:6.

2. Jesus' purpose was more encompassing than marriage. It spoke to people in every situation.
Well if you believe what the majority of Christians believe, then Jesus never got married, and Christians are supposed to model their lives after the life Jesus lead.

So that alone would be an example of marriage being optional, not to mention I believe Peter or Paul (one of the apostles) actually preached against marriage unless you had no other choice.
Tricky question...

Are you talking about marriage v. being single

or

marriage v. celibacy?

Based on the Bible can we even say that Jesus was not married?

(I'm not talking about the Mary Madeline controversy here.)

We know NOTHING about the life of Jesus between the age of 12 and the start of his ministry.

For the sake of argument, is it possible that Jesus was married and that his wife died before He was baptized by John?

We are taught that Jesus faced EVERY temptation known to man...

Wouldn't this include infidelity?
What do you mean ';optional';?

Do you mean that a man can still have a sexual relationship with a woman without being married to her first?

Or do you mean that a man does not have marry in his life?

If you mean that a man does not have marry in his life, than you can say that Jesus never married in his life on earth, and he is the LORD our God.

But please remember that Jesus is in fact married to all the true believers, because all the true believers are bride of Christ.
Jesus could not marry as it was prophesied that the Lamb of God will take away the sins of the world and marriage would have kept our

Savior from being perfect~

Christ was the bridegroom and the Church is the Bride

so many references are made to back up this fact

If you are the Supreme God

God the Father~you would not marry either

Wisdom would prevail and marriage is not for God
From Any Group of people I don't think, the Christian community, Jews, or even the %26lt;a href=';http://www.youracreator.com'; target=';_self';%26gt;muslim community%26lt;/a%26gt; show any real support for marriage being optional... it's all in the plans of nature
Jesus showed his approval of marriage by his attendence at a wedding feast.(John 2:1-2) Now on the third day a marriage feast took place in Ca鈥瞡a of Gal鈥瞚鈥ee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2聽Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the marriage feast.
Marriage is for the ones who can't obstain from sex. Other's, such as Jesus, living ';in'; the Spirit ,don't even think about it. When you are married it ties you to earthly frame of mind. When you are in the Spirit, your thoughts are on ';going to heaven';.
When Jesus was gathering His apostles did he not say something to the effect of giving up all your worldly concerns and follow me. In other words don't get married. And He didn't say they couldn't marry after He was gone. But for that time they would not marry and follow Him.
Marriage is not a useful thing in the Society.

Marriage should only be done when your women is pregnant .
It is not optinal fo rthose called to religous life; nor is it optional for those called to marriage.
the apostle paul said after jesus was crucified: it is good to marry, but bettrer!!!!!!!! to not marry so we can serve god better!
