Should people who are married divorce the state and get out of their government marriage?

Why should the government claim the right to determine what ';marriage'; is? Shouldn't people who currently have a government marriage get a divorce from the government, yet continue to live with each other? Wouldn't they be better off without a government marriage?Should people who are married divorce the state and get out of their government marriage?
What the government says about marriage is dicated by what the electorate wants.

If the people want the laws on marriage to change, they will vote for that.Should people who are married divorce the state and get out of their government marriage?
I would agree government has no place in marriage. But it's so ingrained that there is no getting out of it now. There are too many benefits tax-wise to convince many people to get a divorce just to make a point.
Absolutely! I see nothing wrong with divorcing oneself from the government.
Yes. It would help them on their taxes because they won't have to deal with the marriage penalty.
The authority of the government rests with the will of the people.

(Look, I understand your confusion. As a brain-dead, control-freak, drama-queen liberal, you are taught that the government is NOT responsible to the people, but that with republicans government is a despotic dictatorship and with democrats it's a beneficent provider. Hence the term ';brain-dead'; in all of my references to liberals. You can actually live in a free country with free elections, see the results of the elections, and yet still believe that the people have no power.)

Only conservatives actually understand what freedom is and how to use it for the good of all. When it comes to holding public office, liberals need not apply.
