Well, the title says it all. I want to know what was the average age for men, as well as the average age for women, to get married was during World War II or at least during the early 1940's? I'm not out for sources, but any you could provide would be great! Thanks. What is was the Average age of marriage during WWII/The early 40's?
Are you just looking for the US? I found a nice chart that gives the estimated median age at first marriage. Looks like it's around 23-24 for men %26amp; 20-21 for women. What is was the Average age of marriage during WWII/The early 40's?
I can't sight a source other than my own experience. I am 53 years old so my parents and those of my friends were of that generation.
This makes me say that people married at a somewhat earlier age than most today. I know of 18 year olds that quickly married their love prior to enlisting or being drafted.Others in their early twenties married their sweetheart as soon as they returned from the war.
Today many people, myself included ,put off marriage since there is no hurry. Many also live together and have children without marriage, which was almost unthinkable in my father's time.
