Is it possibly that Californians unwittingly banned marriage alltogether?

The California Supreme Court ruled that gay and straight people had to be treated equally under the law. If straight people had the right to be married, then gay people had the right too.

Since prop 8 bans gay marriage, to be legally consistent, straight people's marriages should also be banned.

It looks like it's civil unions for all.Is it possibly that Californians unwittingly banned marriage alltogether?
Well like most people said it can't be both ways it's either one way. Sad day in California that's for sure.Is it possibly that Californians unwittingly banned marriage alltogether?
It's true that it shouldn't have been like this that this prop has passed. Sadly, this situation may stay on for very long (let's hope not). But I believe that one day there will be not only enough people to abolish this prop in California, but also enough of encouraged people, thanks to whose hard work and involvement in this issue, same-sex marriages will be legal all over the world
Each time that this issue has been brought on our ballots it is voted that Gay Marriage not be legal. In order for the law to truly stick it will need to pass as a federal law I'm afraid.

I'm sure that the argument isn't over. A lot of people will say that it means that heterosexuals shouldn't be able to marry but that all should have civil unions. But I don't think that Californians have banned marriage all together.
Exactly!

';All men are created equal';

The main argument I hear is from religious groups stating marriage is God given. If this is true, then by separation of church and state (1st amendment) none of them should have ever been recognized by the government in the first place. Also, if this is something given by the divine, then why are Atheists allowed to get married, but god loving gays cannot?

Makes no sense what so ever.
The sanctity of marriage-I will bet a lot of the people who are against gay marriage are on their second or third marriages-I always thought that-';till death do us part'; meant something but they can throw that out the window when its convenient and for these people who have affair after affair after affair-but they still are and still get married-thats sanctity for you
Wouldn't Prop 8 overrule the Supreme Court Ruling?

Regardless, the crazies that voted yes to Prop 8 would never let the ';sanctity'; of their marriages fall under fire with their same-sex neighbors.

%26lt;sarcasm%26gt;They're better than that, you know? %26lt;/sarcasm%26gt;
wtf r u talking about.

if u gay and wanna get married do watever the f*ck u want.

no ones stopping u anymore..
It never plays out that way. Discrimination against gays is not the same as racial discrimination.
YAY!!! No gay marriage.
Every single person (gay or straight) has the same right to be married TO SOMEONE OF THE OPPOSITE SEX. Marrying someone of the same sex doesn't fall within the definition of marriage, a marriage between a man %26amp; woman does fall within the definition of marriage therefore, there is no reason to ban marriages of straight people.
