Here are the arguments against it.
#1, it's wrong. God says 1 man 1 woman, not two men or two women, that's the interpretation anyways.
#2, the rights married couples have for things like taxes and medical insurance will somehow mess things up for the rest of us.
#3, it'll lead to things like people marrying dogs, pedophiles getting equal rights and stuff like that.
Those are the arguments I've seen, and none of them really stand up to reason. If anyone has another argument, I'll gladly hear it.
#4, higher use of drugs and alcohol and more sexual permiscuity among homosexuals.
#5, marriage is a religious thing, and should be kept that way.
I should note that personally, I'm against all state-sponsored marriage, not just homosexual marriage.
It's a societal argument based on religion: ';Marriage'; is defined already. We don't want to change the definition. Gays have the legal equivalent of marriage, called ';Domestic Partnership';. There's no rights issue here, since the rights are already present. This is all over the definition of a word.
Speaking of rights, why can't I marry a ***** or a hoe? In the case of the *****, the genders are right, and the dog has no civil rights. Aren't my rights to marry her protected? Ok, you can make the argument that the ***** would be discommoded. What about the hoe, then? The hoe is pure property. There's nothing to be discommoded. Why can't I marry it? The answer, of course, is that that's not what ';marriage'; is.

I'm against gay marriage because it SEGREGATES men and women! Look at what's happening at the same time gay marriage is getting legalized. Some states (like Georgia) are proposing that schools have an option of putting boys and girls in separate classrooms and I'm vehemently opposed to that proposal as well. When men and women are separated, this creates a climate that could foster gender stereotypes and threaten gender equality. Heterosexual marriage promotes gender equality by combining a man and a woman together. Secondly, as our society has become more accepting of homosexual relationships, guess what's been happening at the same time? Drugs are circulating widely throughout the country, more kids are dropping out of school, there are more teen pregnancies, greater spread of STDs, etc., Many of these problems have been found in children growing up with fathers or with single mothers. It's clear that the traditional nuclear family has always been the foundation of societal stability and we must do everything in our power to promote that source of stability, including TOLERATING, but NOT ENDORSING, same sex relationships.

Just lame stuff to justify oppressing a portion of the population. The good news is, the race was close on the issue meaning more people are warming up to the idea. and IF it's about their sex life.... well there are straight couples that engage in THE SAME activities...
oral sex and anal sex exists in many hetrosexual relationships ... so why do people get all hot under the collar and disgusted by homosexual sex?
how many anti-gay men would knock back a female ( their wife/girlfriend/mistress) performing oral sex on them... the ACT is the same.

I'm straight and all for it, but I can understand the opposition. It's old school. Protect the precious few decent things left in society. Marriage is a bond of a man and a woman before God...leave it alone.
Personally, I think any commitment like that is beautiful.
Some people hate freedom and religious groups are making a killing off gays.
