Why do religions forbid sex before marriage and porn?

This is something I think about from time to time. My question is: why is premarital sex and porn considered immoral?





For example, if two people are in a committed relationship, but not married, and have sex, why is that considered immoral?





Also, if a single guy watches porn, why is that immoral? Is it preferable for this man to find a wife just for sex?





An answer such as ';God said so'; isn't going to cut it. Is there any real societal damage (besides unwanted children and disease) that these activities cause?Why do religions forbid sex before marriage and porn?
Jesus Christ never had a problem with premarital sex.





It wasn't until the self-proclaimed apostle Paul declared fornication a sin through Pauline Christianity that Christians began their quest for purity. This puritan movement was escalated by Pope Clementine because of his failed marriage. Pope Clementine and the apostle Paul were two very lonely prudes whose only quest in life was for the rest of mankind to share in the misery of their celibacy.





In the Old Testament, the only women required to be virgins are the brides of priests. All other women are free to fornicate without the persecution of sin. All men and priests can fornicate without the persecution of sin.





Adam and Eve were never married and openly enjoyed the pleasures of premarital sex without condemnation for over 950 years.





Become a Gnostic Christian, and you shall have the freedom to fornicate in the divine sexual orgies of beautiful people. Amen.Why do religions forbid sex before marriage and porn?
It's a form of emotional control. Sexual energy is a *huge* amount of energy. If you can control someone sexually, then you have control of them at the most basic level. You have control of their most basic drive: to reproduce.





I will get a lot of thumbs-down for this, but the fact of the matter is that this form of control is very unconscious. If you channel someone's sexual energy toward another goal--be it political, religious, or community, or even a private goal, then you've harnessed a huge amount of energy that you can control.





';1984'; presents a fairly good picture of how this process works.





EDIT--Let's put in other terms: people worship better if their sexual energy is channeled into worship. Those religious experiences that you see and hear about: I bet you dollars to pesos that is psychosexual energy. Occultists have known and practiced that sort of psychological manipulation for centuries.
You see, you already knew the answer! - unwanted children, and disease. But also, emotional pain when people become attached to someone who isn't committed; broken homes. God wants only to protect us from these things.


As for porn - it twists the mind, encourages promiscuity, can destroy families - which in turn harms society at large. It is degrading for all concerned - those who earn a living at it, and those who encourage it by watching.
God said it because he knows what truly makes us happy, instead of what we think would make us happy. The fact that God said so, is enough for me; he gives everyone a choice as to whether or not to believe it.





Marriage is a sacrament to me and deserves to be honored (which means no unfaithfulness in any way) - it's much more than a legal way to have sex.





Even so, unwanted children and disease are pretty good reasons as well. It's possible God knew what would happen, so he set up rules and regulations to protect us.





But he also gave us free will.





Society needs to think before they act, instead of thinking only about short term gratification (if it feels good, do it).
';God said so'; is good enough for religious people.





For example, you think something is wrong, ';if it hurts another human';, right? Well, religion takes it a step further. There are some things that are considered ';sacred';. Disobeying ';sacred'; laws don't always hurt someone physically or emotionally, but it hurts them spriritually.
Well, ';religions'; covers a huge number of cultures and belief systems. You should really narrow it down. Of course, then you give us ';God said so';, so I'm assuming you're aiming this question at Christians.





One thing you need to understand is that religious people have this thing called FAITH. That means, we believe in things we can't necessarily see, touch, explain, or fully understand. That includes commandments from God. So saying we don't do something because ';God says so'; is a completely legitimate answer.





So the number one reason that premarital sex/porn is a sin is (whether you like it or not): God says so.





It's also sinful because sex is something created by God when He created mankind. Since He created it, He gets to set the rules, and the rules are ALWAYS for our welfare and benefit. Sex is something to be shared between a husband and wife alone. Sex is not recreational; it's sacred and powerful. It creates intense physical and emotional bonds, and can wreak havoc (STD's, unwanted pregnancies, abortions, broken hearts, ';baggage';) when it's not kept within those boundaries.
Porn is very addictive. It can ruin and has ruined many lives, marriages and families.





Premarital sex is why our world is in chaos. Abortions, single parents, abused children, unwanted children, child slave trade, prostitution all come from premarital sex. Wake up and stop watching MTV.
Why? Because there is always a chance that the relationship will not work out. Sure even though you can still break up after you get married, usually the relationship will last long and the couple won't fight over it, because Christians stand for peace. Or I think.





Well I think porn's just sexist (although some denominations certainly do stand for sexism) and uses girls as objects, which is lust (I think that's what it means), and that is a sin.
How many people do you know that say that there in love with and sleep with them then a little while later they are with someone else. porn and premarital sex rob us of God's plan for sex and marriage. God isn't against sex. Just sex outside of marriage. Read I Kissed Dating Goodbye or Boy Meets Girl. they both have a lot to say on this issue.
If you dont think its morally wrong to watch porn, then it doesnt matter what others think. A lot of people watch porn so either there are alot of liars or it isnt morrally wrong. Not my morals i have 2 children out of wedlock they arent baptised and they wont be and i watch porn. It is morally wrong to kill someone not to watch porn. some might argue its morally wrong to have children when half the world cant feed itself.
The sexual mores of modern America come from sexually repressed evangelical/fundamentalist Christians who wish to control every aspect of human life.





There is no god to care or do anything about it and their Jesus was as interested in sex as any other normal human.

As a christian i wonder the same..i enjoy sex...idk about porn but unwanted pregnancies, abortion and vd's can cause alot of heartache.i believe God forbids this because He loves us and wants to save us from heartache.

Mat 5:29 So if your eye--even if it is your good eye--causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.
God teaches us that God made man and woman to unite in a marriage...





Porn is bad for us because it employs lust and not love..and it changes the way we see our spouse...and our life...





Be patient...God will help you if you open your heart for Him...

it is wrong to lust after anyone, and diseases as well as unwanted children can come from it.





if two people are in a committed relationship, why don't they get married?!





if he watches porn, then he is lusting after something- which is obviously sinful and wrong! he should not just go try to find a wife simply for that, he should focus on God and ask for His help to get out of his bad habits! besides, what wife would want a husband that isn't committed to her, and looks at those kinds of things!!!!





God did say so- but that's not the point. the point is what is right. your conscience should tell you that!





now ask yourself, REALLY think and ask yourself:


IS there any real societal damage that these activities cause?!


hopefully you can answer that question for yourself.


common sense should tell you why these things are wrong!


think about it...there's a lot more involved than just the physical actions. there's emotional and mental things that you can't even comprehend!





think of it like this-- a mom puts a cookie on the plate for her child, but tells them not to eat it until after they've eaten their other food.


why? you can answer that- everyone knows!


well, its the same way with sex. God gave it to us as a gift, a creating power- one that only He had, but He gave us a way to do it also.


He gave it to us and lets us decide what to do with it, even though He's told us what He wants--- because He knows what it best!


just like the mom gave her child instructions, but also free will to do what they chose, God gave us instructions, but lets us have the free will to do what we choose.





use it wisely- once you've ruined it, you can never go back.
